It's a fact!
— Maria Rivera

Maria Rivera is the nice and caring mother of Manny Rivera and ex-wife of Rodolfo Rivera.

Appearance[]

Maria is a tall woman with a middle-aged, hourglass-shaped body. She has a light-brown skin, brown-colored eyes, curly black hair with brown accents, small freckles on her cheeks, as well as wearing makeup, consisting of light-pink blush and a ruby-red lipstick. She wears a short sleeved, light lime-green shirt, a set of golden moon-shaped earrings, a pink skirt with a light-pink stripe on the bottom, and dark maroon high-heels.

As her alter-ego, Maria has green eyes with a silver mask covering them, a silver sombrero with three stars on each side, a matching leotard, boots, a glove that is longer than her powerful one, and a red cape with a gold clasp with the initials, PP for Plata Peligrosa, and her same gold earrings. Her hair is put in a high ponytail. Her glove is mostly silver, but the middle has a skull, and the wrist is black studded with silver spikes.

Personality[]

She has the mindset of a peace-loving and calm woman, often thinking that fighting, even if it’s for a good cause, can result in dangerous consequences and the very sight of danger (especially if it involves any of her loved ones) leads her to suffer strong attacks of hyperventilation. This was the main reason that Maria left Rodolfo and Miracle City, until she moved back several years later.

She cares a lot about Manny and worries about him with his El Tigre powers. While Rodolfo still shows his love for her, she maintains only a friendly relationship with him. However, she might have feelings for him, as she only left him because she could no longer watch him injuring himself while he was a superhero. She also displays affection to him in their picnic. Her occupation in most of the series is the librarian at Manny's school, where it’s shown that she loves books.

She is known as kind, sweet, caring, motherly, sensitive, nice, calm, peace-loving, gentle, good, wonderful, intelligent and musically talented.

In "A Mother's Glove", She is driven into complete madness when she is out seeking danger. She does her battle cry whenever starting a fight or eager to fight villains. In "The Return of Plata Peligrosa", she becomes flirtatious around White Pantera and made a deal with the glove. But after she is Plata Peligrosa for one hour, she must take it off or else she will become unstable and destructive again.

History[]

Early life[]

Maria came across the glove that contains the Plata Peligrosa abilities at a party during her college years. Initially embracing the power that the glove gave her, Maria became Plata Peligrosa as a superhero and proved herself to be a great and courageous superhero, hoisting herself into deadly situations without fear to save the day. Eventually, she became highly addicted to the thrill that dangerous crime fighting provided under the glove's influence, and deliberately began seeking out danger. After realizing just what the glove was doing to her mind, Maria decided to give up her life as Plata Peligrosa in order to maintain her life (and mind).

At some point after these events, she marries Rodolfo Rivera (White Pantera) and together, they have a son they would name Manny.

At this point, she accepted Rodolfo being White Pantera, at least until she witnessed a supervillain attacking Miracle City one day. When she saw Rodolfo getting hurt, she entered a state of hyperventilation. This continued on for some time until she couldn't take it anymore. She decided to leave her family behind.

After divorcing Rodolfo, she gained success as a mariachi singer, recording numerous music discs and giving concerts around the world (many of which her son and the rest of their family attended). After years of a successful career in the music business, she returns to Miracle City to be closer to her family (particularly her son).

Series[]

Maria assumes the role of the Leone School's librarian, and seemingly always has a book on hand to back up a fact. She continues to be a functioning part of the Rivera family despite the separation between her and Rodolfo, such as attending a school parent-principal conference with Rodolfo in The Late Manny Rivera, coming over to the Rivera household for dinner often, even as far as attending a family dinner for Granpapi's 'special announcement' in Bride of Puma Loco.

At one point, she was responsible for helping villains redeem themselves in Miracle City Worker. Though two villains were just using her to pull off a crime, one of them El Cucharon helped her son in defeating them and decided to make new life because of Maria who was overjoyed at least one chose to become good.

Years later, when Manny brings the glove back into her life, she temporarily reclaims her identity as Plata Peligrosa, only to give it up once more, as its influence is too much to handle.
